CarJam enters Hitwise Automotive Top 10
Earlier in the year we reported our 11th place in the Hitwise Automotive Top 10 when we hadn't even really launched properly. Well after just over a 4 months of "proper" activity ... drum roll ... we have entered Hitwise Automotive Top 10 in 8th place alongside some of the really big names you'll probably all know well. We are absolutely stoked - thanks for all your interest everyone and thanks Hitwise !!
We are jammin' in Computerworld
Well we might not have made it to the big news just yet but NZ's foremost IT publication, Computerworld covered CarJam with a nice story "Motorheads flock to CarJam site as start-up takes off — Vehicle information site has two million page views in first six months" (shame about the ugly blokes in the picture).
Most stolen cars named
Lock up your daughters - or at least their Silvia's. Read an article at New Zealand Herald on NZ's most stolen cars named
New report price structure and "money owing" is back by popular request
We have upgraded carjam.co.nz overnight. The main features of this release are:
No-nonsense service
"I was impressed by the no-nonsense service offered by carjam, at much less cost than the competitors. In fact after obtaining free information on a number of vehicles, I was happy to pay the $9 for the more detailed information on a couple of vehicles I was about to purchase." — Alex Shephard from Hamilton
Bloody good job with the website and service
"That you've done a bloody good job with the website and service! GOOD ON YA, Keep up the good work!" — Cheers, Alexander
Finding car roots
"Through your site I was able to track down a car that was purchased new in 1958 by my Grandfather, and left the family in 1991. I have contacted the current owner and successfully negotiated the purchase of the car. This is a great outcome which wouldn't have happened without your web site and service." — D.S from Tauranga
Saving time
"I actually love your site. I use it to get engine size data all the time for my own workshop. Customers just give me the number plate and I use Carjam to fill in our own SAM database so there's less time taken up when they arrive." — David Rouse from Auckland Auto Clinic
Carjam is the new black
OK maybe we are not really that fashion conscious but you may have noticed carfax.co.nz has changed its name to Carjam.
We made to NZSearch site of the day
We would like to thank NZSearch and NZCity for making us site of the day on 30th of August 2008.
Odometer reading is incorrect. What can I do?
In order to correct an odometer reading that was recorded incorrectly during a Warrant of Fitness (WoF) inspection NZTA require a copy of the checksheet to be faxed to them. Along with the checksheet NZTA need a cover letter explaining why the checksheet is being sent, what the incorrect odometer reading is along with the vehicles current odometer reading.
Privacy and Vehicle Ownership - can I see the current owner?
Please note that names and addresses of individuals are not available as of May 2011 privacy law changes unless you are an authorised business entity.
Why does a vehicle show "Money Owing" - as the finance is already paid off?
CarJam uses the data from the governments PPSR to check on money owing secured against plate, VIN, chassis number and all past plates.
Vehicle details are incorrect. What can I do?
When a vehicle's details are recorded incorrectly on the Motor Vehicle Register (MVR), these can be corrected by sending an Application to Change Vehicle Details (form MR16, available at any New Zealand Transport Agency agent) to the NZTA Most MR16 forms need to be sent with supporting documentation to prove that the information recorded on the MVR is incorrect i.e. if the vehicle model is recorded incorrectly we would require documents from the manufacturer to prove this before a change would be made.
What does "unreliable odometer" mean?
This is a report on the status of the vehicles odometer as determined by the WOF or COF inspector an to change it you must contact the NZTA
Where does the information in the reports come from?
The data is sourced, analysed, processed and carefully put together from several government and private sources:
Historic and current fuel costs
With the recent rises in fuel prices people are asking "How much do I spend on petrol now compared to a year ago?" Now you can find out. Here is an example for a Honda Legend 2006. Under the odometer history section we show the estimated daily, weekly, monthly and yearly fuel bill based on the latest mileage of the car.Don't forget to come back every week to update yourself on the latest figures as these prices just keep going up and up. The fuel prices are updated every week to give you the most realistic picture.Unfortunately we are only able to provide this information for vehicles built after 2000.
500,000+ pages and 11th favourite auto website in New Zealand in just one month
We are so excited. In May, carfax.co.nz made it into the top 100 auto websites used by Kiwis according to hitwise report for the month of May, 2008. And we made it in quite a fashion shooting up to #11. Thank you guys for having such a support and spreading the word around.
My odometer reading or other vehicle details are wrong. What can I do?
CarJam uses data from the NZTA Motor Vehicle Register. Sometimes this data is incorectly entered for example during a WOF or COF or when a vehicle is first registered.
Wow - this wasn't meant to be happening just yet!
Someone, somewhere out there, learned about carfax and before we knew what was happening the server was overloaded and the site was down. We went from a few friends and family testing for us to serving up one page view every second at peak times. Our little server was unable to cope and needed to be restarted every ten to fifteen minutes. Fortunately for me Anton was on system admin duty and had the job of keeping the server up and running all Monday night.
